HOWITT TEACHES THE IMPORTANCE OF CIVIC INVOLVEMENT Steven Howitt is passionate about civic involvement and education. Howitt made his position clear to the entire 7th grade class at Providence Country Day, East Providence. He was invited to address the 7th grade as a State Representative candidate, to speak about the importance of civic engagement and citizens’ roles in their government. When asked what the most important thing a “grown up” can do when they reach the age of 18, Howitt encouraged the students to “blow out the candles on your birthday cake, then go register to vote. It’s a privilege, an honor and an important part of being an involved and concerned adult. People have fought and died for this privilege to have a voice in their government. Everyone should take their right to vote very seriously, and everyone should exercise that right.” “There is nothing is as important as education, and I was honored to be asked to return to the school to speak to this class,” Howitt noted, “They asked some tough questions!” Howitt is an alumnus of the school, graduating in 1974 after attending the Seekonk Public Schools. He is a State Representative candidate for the 4th Bristol District, Massachusetts. ### (Photo of Mr. Howitt included with this release taken with permission at Providence Country Day School, East Providence, RI.)
